Amano Shrimp

Common Name: Algae Cleaner, Yamato Shrimp, Amano Shrimp
Fully Grown Size: 2-3 inches (5cm to 7.6cm)

Amano Shrimps were founded and introduced to the hobby by Takashi Amano. They are native to Japan and Taiwan. Amano Shrimps are popular among the aquarium hobby because they can keep a tank algae free by eating leftover food and debris 24/7. they can be kept with nano fish similar size to the Amano shrimp.

Amano Shrimps grows fast and can be semi-aggressive during eating periods. They do very well in heavily planted tanks and likes to scavenge throughout the tank. There are rare occasions where the amanos are able to crawl out of the aquarium.

Amano Shrimps are easy to breed but due to the environment needed for the larvae, survival rates is hard maintain. Once a Amano gets berried, it can take up to 5 weeks to hatch. Once hatched, the larvae needs to be put in brackish water. In the nature, a stream takes the larvae near the ocean. After its larvae stage, it's crucial to move them back into freshwater or reduce the salinity level. Amano Shrimps take 4-6 to mature depending on its diet and environment 

This shrimp is easy to care for as they require remineralized RO water or tap. If you are using tap, keep in mind to check for any harmful metals or chemicals in the water as all tap water is different and some aren't safe to shrimps.

The shrimps you will receive will be sub adults which translate to .80 inch to 1.1 inch (2cm to 3cm).
