    DESCRIPTION

The Duboisi Tropheus (Tropheus duboisi) is a popular and distinctive cichlid species native to Lake Tanganyika in East Africa. Known for its unique appearance and social behavior, the Duboisi Tropheus is a sought-after choice among cichlid enthusiasts.

Here's some information about the Duboisi Tropheus:

    1. Coloration: Duboisi Tropheus are known for their striking appearance. Juvenile Duboisi have a black body with rows of white spots that resemble a polka-dot pattern. As they mature, these spots become larger and fewer in number, resulting in a more subdued appearance. Adult Duboisi typically have a darker overall coloration.

    2. Size: Adult Duboisi Tropheus can grow to be around 4 to 5 inches (10 to 12 cm) in length.

    3. Habitat: In their natural habitat of Lake Tanganyika, Duboisi Tropheus are found in rocky areas along the shoreline. They prefer areas with crevices and rocky structures that offer hiding places.

    4. Behavior: Like other Tropheus cichlids, Duboisi are known for their social behavior and complex interactions within their colonies. They establish strict hierarchies and are generally non-aggressive when kept in groups with adequate space and hiding spots.

    5. Tank Setup: Provide a setup that mimics their natural rocky habitat. Rocks, caves, and crevices are essential for their well-being and for establishing territories. Adequate hiding spots help reduce aggression.

    6. Water Conditions: Duboisi Tropheus prefer water with a pH range of 7.8 to 9.0 and a temperature range of 76 to 80°F (24 to 27°C). Maintain stable water parameters to avoid stress.

    7. Diet: Duboisi Tropheus are primarily herbivorous and feed on algae and biofilm in their natural environment. In captivity, offer high-quality herbivore pellets or flakes, along with occasional fresh vegetables like blanched spinach or zucchini.

    8. Compatibility: When keeping Duboisi Tropheus, it's best to keep them in a species-specific setup. Mixing them with other cichlid species might result in stress and aggression due to their specific social structure.

    9. Breeding: Breeding Duboisi Tropheus in captivity can be challenging due to their specialized dietary and environmental needs. They are mouthbrooders, with females holding the fertilized eggs in their mouths until they hatch.

Duboisi Tropheus are admired for their unique appearance and intriguing social behavior. Proper care, suitable tankmates, and attention to their dietary and habitat requirements are crucial for their well-being and successful breeding.
