    DESCRIPTION

Boeseman's Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia boesemani) is a stunning and colorful freshwater fish species native to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. The "short body" variation likely refers to a selectively bred form of this rainbowfish with a modified body shape. These fish are known for their vibrant colors and peaceful nature, making them popular choices for community aquariums.

Here's more information about Boeseman's Rainbowfish "short body":

    1. Coloration: Boeseman's Rainbowfish is known for its beautiful and vibrant coloration. Males typically display shades of blue, green, and orange-red on their bodies and fins. The color intensity can vary depending on factors like diet and environment. Females are usually less colorful.

    2. Size: Standard Boeseman's Rainbowfish typically grow to around 4 to 5 inches (10 to 12 cm) in length. However, the "short body" variation may exhibit a more compact body shape.

    3. Habitat: This species is native to clearwater rivers and streams in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

    4. Behavior: Boeseman's Rainbowfish are generally peaceful and social fish. They do well in community aquariums with other non-aggressive fish species.

    5. Tank Setup: Provide a well-planted aquarium with open swimming areas. These rainbowfish appreciate the presence of rocks, driftwood, and plants that mimic their natural habitat.

    6. Water Conditions: Maintain a temperature range of around 72 to 82°F (22 to 28°C) and a pH between 6.0 to 7.5.

    7. Diet: Boeseman's Rainbowfish are omnivores and enjoy a varied diet that includes high-quality flakes, pellets, live or frozen foods, and some vegetable matter.

    8. Compatibility: They are generally peaceful and can be kept with other peaceful community fish. Avoid housing them with aggressive or larger species that might intimidate them.

    9. Tank Mates: Suitable tankmates include other peaceful community fish that share similar water requirements.

    10. Breeding: Breeding Boeseman's Rainbowfish in captivity can be achieved with proper care and setup. Provide spawning sites such as fine-leaved plants, and separate breeding pairs into a separate tank.

The "short body" variation may display a modified body shape, but the care requirements and behavior will be similar to the standard Boeseman's Rainbowfish. Providing them with appropriate care and attention will help them thrive in your aquarium.
