The Three-lined Corydoras, scientifically known as Corydoras trilineatus, is a widely recognized and popular species of catfish in the aquarium trade. They are known for their attractive appearance, peaceful nature, and interesting behavior. Here's some information about the Three-lined Corydoras:
Appearance: Corydoras trilineatus has a light-colored body with three distinct horizontal black lines running along their sides. These lines give them their common name, "Three-lined Corydoras." They also have a more subdued pattern of spots and markings.
Size: These catfish typically grow to a size of around 2.5 to 3 inches (6.5 to 7.5 cm) in length.
Behavior: Like other Corydoras species, Three-lined Corydoras are peaceful and sociable. They thrive when kept in groups (shoals) of at least six individuals.
Tank Setup: Provide a well-planted aquarium with hiding spots, such as caves, rocks, and driftwood. Smooth substrate is important to prevent damage to their barbels.
Water Conditions: Three-lined Corydoras prefer slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH range of around 6.0 to 7.5. Maintain the temperature between 72 to 79°F (22 to 26°C).
Diet: These catfish are omnivores. Offer them high-quality sinking pellets, live or frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp, and include some vegetable matter.
Compatibility: Three-lined Corydoras are peaceful and can coexist with other peaceful community fish that share similar water requirements.
Breeding: Breeding Three-lined Corydoras in captivity is possible. Provide clean water, suitable spawning sites, and a balanced diet. Once eggs are laid, they can be carefully transferred to a separate container to protect them.
The Three-lined Corydoras is a great addition to community aquariums due to its calm behavior and visually appealing coloration. Providing proper care, including suitable tank conditions and a balanced diet, will contribute to the well-being and longevity of your Three-lined Corydoras.
