The Panda Corydoras, scientifically known as Corydoras panda, is a popular and charming species of freshwater catfish commonly kept in aquariums. They are appreciated for their distinctive coloration and peaceful demeanor. Here's some information about the Panda Corydoras:
Appearance: The Panda Corydoras features a classic black and white coloration, resembling the giant panda bear. They have a white base color with bold black markings on their bodies. The black markings often cover their eyes, giving them a distinctive appearance.
Size: Panda Corydoras generally grow to a size of around 1.5 to 2 inches (3.8 to 5 cm) in length.
Behavior: Like other Corydoras species, Pandas are peaceful, sociable, and enjoy being kept in groups. It's recommended to keep them in groups of at least six individuals to ensure they feel secure and exhibit natural behaviors.
Tank Setup: Provide a well-planted aquarium with hiding spots, such as caves, rocks, or driftwood. Their substrate should be smooth and not abrasive to avoid damaging their barbels, which they use to search for food on the bottom of the tank.
Water Conditions: Panda Corydoras prefer slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH range of around 6.0 to 7.5. The temperature should be maintained between 72 to 79°F (22 to 26°C).
Diet: These catfish are omnivores and have a varied diet. Offer high-quality sinking pellets, frozen or live foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and also include some vegetable matter.
Compatibility: Panda Corydoras are peaceful and can be kept with other peaceful community fish that share similar water requirements. Avoid pairing them with larger or aggressive species.
Breeding: Breeding Panda Corydoras can be accomplished with the right conditions. Providing clean water, suitable spawning sites, and a balanced diet can encourage breeding behavior. Once eggs are laid, they can be removed to a separate container to protect them.
Panda Corydoras are often a favorite among aquarists due to their unique appearance and peaceful nature. As with all aquarium fish, maintaining good water quality and providing appropriate care is crucial for their well-being. Regular water changes, proper diet, and a comfortable environment will help ensure their health and longevity.
