    DESCRIPTION

Lamprologus ocellatus, commonly known as the "Gold Ocellatus" or "Ocellatus Cichlid," is a small cichlid species originating from Lake Tanganyika in East Africa. They are known for their beautiful coloration, intriguing behavior, and preference for dwelling in shells. These cichlids are popular among aquarists who appreciate their unique characteristics.

Here's more information about Lamprologus ocellatus, including the "Gold Ocellatus" variety:

    1. Coloration: Lamprologus ocellatus exhibits various color morphs, and the "Gold Ocellatus" variety is characterized by its golden or yellowish coloration. This gold coloration sets it apart from other morphs of this species.

    2. Size: Ocellatus Cichlids are small, usually reaching sizes of about 2 to 2.5 inches (5 to 6.5 cm).

    3. Habitat: In their natural habitat of Lake Tanganyika, Ocellatus Cichlids inhabit the sandy or rocky substrate areas near the shoreline. They are known for their preference to inhabit empty snail shells as shelters.

    4. Behavior: These cichlids are fascinating to observe due to their shell-dwelling behavior. They establish territories within empty snail shells, where they retreat for safety and breeding.

    5. Tank Setup: Provide a setup with a sandy substrate and plenty of empty snail shells for the cichlids to inhabit. Rocky formations and caves can also be included to create hiding spots.

    6. Water Conditions: Ocellatus Cichlids prefer water with a pH range of 7.8 to 9.0 and a temperature range of 75 to 82°F (24 to 28°C). Consistency in water parameters is essential.

    7. Diet: Offer a balanced diet that includes high-quality cichlid pellets, flakes, and small live or frozen foods. Their diet should include both protein-rich and plant-based components.

    8. Compatibility: Due to their territorial nature and specialized habitat requirements, Ocellatus Cichlids are best kept in species-specific setups or with other peaceful Tanganyikan cichlids that share similar preferences.

    9. Breeding: Breeding Ocellatus Cichlids is fascinating. The female lays her eggs within a shell, and both parents guard the territory and protect the offspring.

The "Gold Ocellatus" Lamprologus ocellatus is prized for its unique behavior and stunning coloration. Providing the appropriate setup with shells for them to inhabit is key to their well-being and will allow you to observe their intriguing territorial and breeding behaviors.
