    DESCRIPTION

The Green Spotted Puffer (Tetraodon nigroviridis), often simply referred to as GSP, is a popular brackish water fish species that belongs to the family Tetraodontidae. These pufferfish are known for their vibrant green coloration, unique appearance, and intriguing behavior. They are often kept in aquariums with brackish water conditions, which means a mix of freshwater and saltwater.

Here's more information about the Green Spotted Puffer:

    1. Coloration and Appearance: Green Spotted Puffers have a distinct green coloration with black spots on their bodies. They also have a rounded shape and a beak-like mouth characteristic of pufferfish.

    2. Size: These puffers can grow to be around 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 cm) in length.

    3. Habitat: In the wild, Green Spotted Puffers are found in brackish waters of estuaries, river mouths, and coastal areas.

    4. Behavior: Green Spotted Puffers are known for their curious and active behavior. They are also known for their unique feeding behavior, which involves using their beak-like teeth to crush and consume hard-shelled prey.

    5. Tank Setup: A brackish water setup with a specific gravity (salinity) range of around 1.005 to 1.015 is suitable for Green Spotted Puffers. Provide plenty of hiding spots and some open swimming areas.

    6. Water Conditions: Maintain a temperature range of 78 to 82°F (25 to 28°C) and a pH range of 7.5 to 8.5. Regular monitoring and maintenance of water quality are essential.

    7. Diet: Green Spotted Puffers are carnivores and require a diet rich in protein. Their diet should include a variety of foods such as snails, shrimp, crab, and other small, hard-shelled prey to help keep their teeth healthy.

    8. Compatibility: Green Spotted Puffers can be kept singly or in groups, depending on the tank size. They can be aggressive towards their own species or other puffers, so tankmates should be chosen carefully.

    9. Territorial Behavior: Green Spotted Puffers can be territorial, especially if they do not have enough space or hiding spots. Providing hiding places can help reduce aggression.

    10. Breeding: Breeding Green Spotted Puffers in a home aquarium is rare due to the complexity of their reproductive behavior.

Remember that keeping Green Spotted Puffers requires a good understanding of their brackish water needs, feeding requirements, and potential aggression. Proper research and care are essential to ensure their health and well-being in the aquarium.
